Now, as I draw it, I can see the overlay, but when I release the cursor, the overlay is hidden. If I only want the overlay to appear when I have the mouse down, then I can choose to auto show the overlay. As I cycle through the different overlays, if there's an overlay where I want to change the orientation, I can just add the Shift key and tap "o". We can use the overlay icon in order to change the different overlays or we can cycle through them by just tapping the "o" key. And to remove an aspect ratio, I can always click the Clear button. In order to swap the values, I can click the double-headed arrows. If I need to change the aspect ratio, I can select one from the list or enter in my own values. I can reposition the crop marquee by clicking and dragging within the marquee. We can use any of the handles in order to resize the crop marquee, and I can hold down the Option key on Mac or the "alt" key on Windows in order to resize from the center. Now by default, Photoshop places a crop marquee around the entire image, but you can also just click and drag in the image area in order to create your own. I'm going to tap the C key to select the crop tool, but we can also select it from the toolbar.

Neither is a thing that justifies this runaround.- Well it's certainly possible to crop your images using Camera Raw, there may also be instances when you need to crop or straighten an image later in your workflow once you know the size or the aspect ratio that you need for a design or layout. I need either: a brief explanation of how to change the editing defaults, or a means of requesting that the editing default be changed. But this forum never actually has anything useful.

Any attempts to do so get funneled over to this forum. It’s very frustrating how apple no longer seems to take product feedback from the general Public. This is something where I wish feedback assistant still worked as a means of providing feedback on the retail releases instead of needing to be in the beta program. The new behavior is annoying because the Photos editing UI is annoying. The behavior is different than it used to be on my previous Mac and photos from my iPhone XR. This issue is on a brand new Mac editing photos from a brand new iPhone 12 Mini. I just want the crop tool on Photos to behave the way it used to, and having this be answered in a public forum would also be more useful for other people who are having the same issue. So you’re saying there’s no way to change the defaults for the photos crop tool? Why not? Why is there no way to just make a simple feature request? I don’t need hands-on one-on-one time with tech support for this, and I certainly don’t want to spend a lot of time on the phone with customer support.
